Who trusts random Taxi drivers?

Not the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.
Check out the sign that's in the front of their luxury lobby.

Think about that when you think about taxis in Israel.

p.s. I think it's more about getting scammed than being unsafe, but taxi info seems right for my safety category.

maybe it's true of taxis all over, but we first (and most) experienced it in Jerusalem...the don't-start-the-meter trick.
do not assume a meter will be started when you begin a ride in a taxi. you must must must ask / demand/ yell at your driver to start the meter or you will get charged two or three times more than you should.
also, even if the driver does not attempt to cheat you, do not tip.

Taxis

We were told that taxis in Israel are abundant and cheap. So cheap, in fact, that one person suggested we forgo the rental car and catch rides from place to place.
We did not do that for two reasons. (1) we like to be in control,and (2) we like to leave stuff in the car.
I am certain, however, that we will be in a taxi or two during our stay so will certainly report back.
in the meantime, anyone else have taxi advice?
