I understand that
the Red Sea has a bigger, um, relationship with Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia,
but it would be a huge mistake not to mention on a site about Israel because it
is the best body of water I have ever seen and/or been submerged
in.
And, Moses
did part it.
An interesting
thing about spending time in/on the Red Sea while in Israel is that you have to
go to Egypt to do it. Of course, the booking agents neglect to share that
information with prospective divers/snorkelers.
So consider yourself
warned (and say thank you, Shiksa): if you want to fully enjoy the Red
Sea - which means going beyond the beach in front of your hotel -
understand that a semi significant part of your trip will be spent crossing the
boarder. It's not a big deal but it is nice to know.
You're not getting
an Egyptian stamp on your passport, though, since someone doesn't like someone
so you can't 'admit' to having been. Your stamp goes on a detached piece of
paper that, I guess, gets thrown away. This procedure makes no sense becasue
Israel re-stamps you and it's pretty obvious that if you came and went from Taba
in the same day that you were in Egypt.
Taba, by the way,
is familiar to you because it was the site of a hotel bombing in 2005. The Hilton, actually (pictured). Just saying.
From the boat I noticed
some large and beautiful hotels on the shoreline. I also noticed some
hotels-to-be. I'm curious about the area...curious enough to return...but that's another
site.
More about the Red
Sea in another post.
